It feels as though you are not intended to keep playing after the credits, save for one item that you are giving if you keep going for a little bit. A few of them will tell you things have changed, but there's no visual indication of it, save for in one place. The majority of characters after end-game don't have dialogue changes and it feels like you didn't do anything. The story was confusing due to exposition being delivered in one dump near the end, and yet also very simple and blandly feel-good. Unless there's post-game things that I have yet to unlock, I don't understand how I'm supposed to get the remaining items. I kept assuming the items were farther ahead, and then I reached the end of the game. Also there's some items that feel impossible to find, I scoured all the maps, planted all the seeds, and grinded each town up to level 4/5 for everything, and still I wasn't able to complete the libraries/max out all my items. 1 shot all the bosses after beating my head against/dying to the first over 10 times. This is a seriously good sign of the future of this game.įinished the game, the difficulty curve is weird as hell, the farther I played bosses became easier. #Garden story switch review updateI can only assume the dev(s?) had this update in the works for a while now, but didn't have it ready to go until just today. Tool levels now show in the inventory, plantable plots have a nice outline to better see if you're targeting them, some cleaned up icon changes, little fixes to things like glass jars with enemies in them being correctly colored, path and scenery changes to make it better to get around, the library material donation menu being vastly improved, dungeons were also greatly improved with new puzzles, and a little switch to reset the puzzle if you messed up, even new rooms, there's just so much. I figured it must be some bug fixes or maybe changing the game icon (I wish, but nope), maybe some QoL fixes. Oh yeah, you can also get cosmetic backpacks and hats, so those are just fun.Įdit: Just wanted to add, I just updated the game. They're all over, but not so much that it feels overwhelming to try to decorate places entirely. Essentially, there's "building spots" where you can place new stuff, like decorations or resource deposits. And again, there's a building thing that I haven't really got much into, but I can see it being really nice later. There's other little things like donating materials to town libraries to unlock more story and recipes for building decorations, a "memory" system that is used to give yourself upgrades or abilities, etc. All of that goes on while you're advancing the story, which takes you to new places eventually. Plus, you'll probably move to the next town by the time you feel tired of them. These do get a bit repetitive, but I've never felt they're bad enough that I just skip them. Every day you'll get up to 3 short little tasks to complete to earn money, and raise the town levels so you unlock more upgrades and stock to buy. The meat of the game involves collecting materials (wood from stumps, stone from rocks, lots of others), and using those to improve your gear and the towns. The dungeons are linear (literally, they're a straight line of connected rooms), with a little bit of puzzles, and fairly challenging bosses. You eventually get more weapons, and more stamina so the combat feels more fluid. At first, you get a little sword thing that has a very small attack arc, and only two stamina to swing it twice before needing to "recharge". The combat is decent, but takes a while to really feel good. It plays more like a Zelda-lite, with more emphasis on fixing up towns. Otherwise, aside from some town building/improvements, there's really nothing else similar. There's no farming, except for a seed growing thing you can do later, which even then is just plant it and forget it. I'm loving it, honestly.įirst, while it looks a bit like Stardew (pixel art, top down view), that's pretty much it. I'm at the 3rd town now, so I've got a pretty good amount of what the game to offer so far. I've been playing it pretty steadily since yesterday.
